Focus on: Differentiated Instruction
This lesson was designed to pull all the work students did up to this point (February 19) together and prepare them for an assessment. It asked students to apply their content knowledge to make predictions about where the American family is going and substantiate their argument with evidence from class materials. In order to prepare them for their exam, their memory was refreshed by a review activity using Plickers and sample questions from their unit assessment, which was scheduled for Monday February 23. If students were daunted by the use of technology (Plickers), they could work quietly with the textbook instead of participating in a group activity. I have a record of all participating students in Plickers and could have created an extra study resource for the class if that became necessary. Additionally, students could have taken note of the questions and answers during the game rather than participating in the game itself. Any extra class time could go to students accessing their textbooks to finely tune their content knowledge. This lesson engaged the students with the unit content and helped ensure that they were adequately prepared for the coming test, now matter which path suited the individual student best.
